About Sarah
Sarah Stent
BEd, MA, MEd | UKCP Accredited | EMDR Trained
I am an Integrative Child Psychotherapist and EMDR trained therapist based on the Somerset/Dorset border. I work with children, young people, their families, schools and professionals who support them as well as adults when doing EMDR.
Background
My background
My path into psychotherapy was inspired out of more than 25 years of teaching experience across SEND, safeguarding, leadership and advisory roles in early years, primary, secondary and specialist settings. Over that time, I became increasingly drawn to the emotional and relational dimensions of children's lives — the things that sit beneath the surface and shape how they learn, relate and grow.
I trained as an Integrative Child Psychotherapist and hold an MA in Integrative Child Psychotherapy. I am accredited with the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP). I am also trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) and work with adults, adolescents and children using this evidence-based approach.
My approach
My practice is grounded in compassion, curiosity and a deep respect for each individual's unique story. I draw on psychodynamic theory, attachment theory, trauma-informed and neuro-affirming practice to offer therapy and consultancy that is genuinely responsive to the individual in front of me.
I believe that children communicate through aplay, creativity and relationships long before they can put their experiences into words. My role is to create the conditions in which that communication can happen — and to help children, families and the professionals around them make sense of what they find.
Whether I am working therapeutically with a child or adult, supporting a family, or consulting with a school, I bring the same values: warmth, honesty, rigour and a genuine commitment to the wellbeing of those at the centre of the work.
